The inspiration for the company itself began when founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford wanted to build distinctive sports cars that were exhilarating to drive. Martin was a regular competitor in the hill climb races at Aston Clinton and the simple combination of the name of the event and the name of the driver gave birth to one of the most famous automotive marques ever.
