PLANNING PROCESS Implementing the Peoples' Plan
Committed to seeing the full implementation of the key provisions of the Peoples' Plan, the AHUP team recently organized two working groups to achieve the following immediate-term projects:
- Major Mixed-Use Residential Development - AHUP planners and architects are currently working on alternative designs for a 200-400 unit residential development offering a variety of housing types affordable to long-term residents.
- A second planning and design team is pursuing resources needed to establish a community planning, design, and law center to assist homeowners who have returned to the area to rebuild their homes and neighborhoods.
AHUP team members recently met with representatives of seven major lending institutions to discuss these and other proposals contained within the Peoples' Plan. The very positive response these financial leaders had to the Peoples' Plan has resulted in a second meeting to be held with an expanded group of potential funders, which will take place in New York City on March 12.
